Venice city campus

Posted On 11-03-2023

Yesterday the future of Venice and the project to develop the city into a center of excellence for higher education and research were at the core of a meeting held in Venice. The representatives of Ca' Foscari University, Iuav University, Benedetto Marcello Music Conservatory and Academy of Fine Arts discussed it together with the Italian Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini, the president of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia and the mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro.

The Venice city campus project ('Venezia Città Campus') aims to rebalance three areas of development allowing for a more harmonious and sustainable growth of the territory: tourism, production and knowledge. It would involve the development of a widespread campus between Venice and Mestre, which is supposed to concern especially the areas of Santa Marta, via Torino street in Mestre, Porto Marghera and the Vega Science Park.

It will be essential to increase the number of programmes offered to students, in line with EU standards, in order to attract talented young students from all over the world: according to an initial estimate the student community could double in the next ten years, going from current 31,000 students to around 60,000.
