Posted On 04/04/2019

Ca’ Foscari’s international vocation is once again exemplified by two important agreements with prestigious Asian universities, the Fudan University in Shanghai and the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The Memorandums of Understanding have been signed with the aim of promoting academic, cultural and scientific exchange between the partnering institutions.

New collaboration perspectives are now possible, following the visit of the Ca’ Foscari delegation, composed of Rector Michele Bugliesi, Vice Rector Tiziana Lippiello and other two Professors of the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage, Stefano Riccioni and Giorgio Cesarale.

In particular, the cooperation agreement with Fudan University involved the School of Philosophy. Its Director, Prof. Sun Xiangchen together with 3 other members of the faculty, kindly welcomed our delegation for a visit of the Philosophy department. During the meeting, the two universities discussed topics such as education and research, before signing a Memorandum of Understanding and a Student Exchange Agreement. Thanks to this cooperation, 3 to 6 students from each university will have a chance to spend a semester in the partner institution, while obtaining the corresponding credits for the year. Furthermore, the two universities have also discussed a Summer School program, with the aim of offering students a summer exchange experience. That same evening, prof. Michele Bugliesi held a talk at Fudan University, where he presented Ca’ Foscari’s offer in terms of education and scientific research.

The second agreement involved the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, signed with the goal of offering a unique educational experience to students and promoting the cooperation between the two institutions. Each year, 6 students will have a chance to broaden their horizons by spending a period of time in China.

The visit to China was also the occasion to nominate the winner of the Ca’ Foscari Alumni World Ambassador Award. Davide Cucino, President of Fincantieri Shanghai, who graduated in Oriental Studies at Ca’ Foscari , took home the award on Friday, March 29th. Cucino is also President Emeritus of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

There are currently over 350 Ca’ Foscari Alumni working in China, with 150 of them residing in the Shanghai district.

The prize was awarded in Shanghai during an event to celebrate the 150th year of the Venetian university, together with the community of Alumni, entrepreneurs and professors who now live in China. On that same occasion, Ca’ Foscari had the chance to present the many initiatives that the University has launched in China, first and foremost the inauguration of an international Office in the nearby city of Suzhou.
